To all the fathers out there, best wishes on this special day. Though this day, honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds, is celebrated in most of the western world, in Israel it’s just another warm Sunday.

In Israel, Father's Day is usually celebrated as part of Family Day (encompassing Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day, Siblings Day) on May 1 together with Workers' Day or Labor Day.

The shift from Mothers/Fathers Day to Family Day is in keeping with the diverse variety of configurations of the nuclear family. Children with two mothers, or two fathers, or single-parent families — all are part of the celebration, so as to honor everyone with love.

According to a 2006 Israel Ministry of Education document outlining activities for the day, “The division of roles in the family has changed and has become more egalitarian. Mothers are a significant economic factor in the family, and fathers share the relationship with the children from the stage of pregnancy and take a large part in their education and growth. These changes led to a change in the essence of the special day and its transformation to Family Day.”

Happy Day to Y’all !
